AUDI C8 RS6 RS7 intake system
Performance Upgrade - Stage 1 : 45-50hp, 49ft-lbs
Stage 1 acceleration 100-200Km/h: Shortening by 0.6s
Performance Upgrade - Stage 2 : 60-80hp, 60-70ft-lbs
The Audi C8 RS6 intake system is the result of extensive development, testing and prototyping. Our goal was to meet 2 main criteria: 1) Increased flow rate. 2) Uniform airflow. The first objective was achieved by exploiting the limited space in the RS6's engine compartment, severely constrained by the underside of the hood. Our solution was a complete redesign of the entire airbox, maximizing volume, enlarging the airflow inlet openings and creating a more favorable filter angle to the turbos. We also dramatically enlarged the turbo inlets by up to 85% when measuring the cross-sectional area at the ports. The second goal was achieved by designing an organically shaped system with a specially rounded panel filter to ensure that the airflow path contains no sharp corners and thus the flow remains laminar. With smooth transitions from the filter to the turbo inlets, our intake system minimizes the formation of turbulence, allowing the turbos to work more efficiently. In collaboration with BMC, we have developed a bespoke filter element to ensure the filtration area is as large as possible while keeping the airflow clean.
When all goals are met, our C8 RS6 intake system delivers on all fronts, allowing the turbos to generate boost pressure more efficiently. This results in improved throttle response and significant performance gains that have been independently tested and increase with higher tuning levels. The measured performance increases are a result of the complete system that we have developed from the airbox base to the lid to the intakes.
dyno tests
Our intake system has been independently tested both on the dyno and on the road. At higher tuning levels, the turbos require more air and thus the stock airbox becomes a greater constraint. Here are some results from reputable tuners who tested the intake tract.
STAGE 1 TESTING
Dyno testing was done by Awesome GTI in the UK on their own C8 RS6 fitted with a OPF exhaust and their own Stage 1 remap. The car was driven 4 times in 4th gear with the stock airbox and then switched to the Eventuri while the car remained on the dyno. The car was then driven again 4 times in 4th gear. The tests were all performed on the same day and no other changes were made. The chart below shows the highest performance with the stock airbox versus the highest performance with the Eventuri inlet. In both cases, these are the first dyno runs, with the performance decreasing in subsequent dyno runs due to heat build-up. As can be seen below, the intake tract offers a significant increase in power across the rev range. The highlighted point shows the highest power increase in the 60 hp range at the crankshaft. The resulting performance gains are noticeable on the road, with better throttle response and improved acceleration times.
STAGE 2 TESTING
Dyno testing on a Stage 2 RS6 was done by Eurocharged Canada on a car with aftermarket downpipes, intercoolers and their own Stage 2 remap. The values shown here are measured on the steering wheel. The car was run several times with the stock airbox and eventuri. The resulting values are shown below after comparing the best series and best eventuri results. Again we see a dramatic power gain and as this is Stage 2 the stock airbox is an even greater limitation. The highlighted dot shows the highest rev band gain of 79hp at the wheels.
