RADIUMAUTO Dual Catch Tank Kit for 02-21 Subaru EJ Turbo

A catch tank is essential for protecting the engine from increased blow-by oil from the crankcase that accumulates during aggressive driving. Excess oil-saturated air circulating back into the intake stream can cause performance degradation by depositing oil inside the intake system, intercooler, intake manifold, etc. Radium Engineering's catch tanks feature large 10AN ORB ports, a 4AN ORB drain port, 2-stage oil separators, and an O-ring sealed dipstick.

This kit contains two independent catch tanks that each connect to different parts of the PCV system. The cans do NOT vent to atmosphere (VTA) and instead retain the factory piping strategy. This closed system directs clean, filtered air back into the engine and promotes crankcase vacuum for optimal performance. In addition, closed circuit systems prevent unwanted oil vapors from being noticed in the interior.

The catch tanks are not compatible with right hand drive vehicles as the kit installs on the right strut tower. As shown below, the low profile design extends just 4.8" (122mm) from the strut tower.

The 20-0608-FL kit shown in green has machining capabilities for compatibility with the 02-21 Subaru Impreza/Forester unibody.

As shown below, an aluminum heat shield is provided to prevent radiant exhaust temperatures from interfering with the oil condensation process.

By removing the 4 heat shield screws, maintaining the Catch Tank is simple and straightforward.

The catch tanks must be serviced and emptied regularly. The frequency depends on how much mud is collected, which varies from vehicle to vehicle. For a maintenance-free solution, consider the Radium AOS-R.

HOW IT WORKS :
With the throttle closed or light, the PCV valve is open, allowing fresh air to be drawn into the crankcase and intake manifold. In this condition, most of the oil will collect in the PCV line drain pan. Under these circumstances, no oil will accumulate in the crankcase catch tank.

At full throttle, the PCV valve is closed (you don't want the turbo's boost pressure entering the crankcase), and the crankcase gases are being forced out of the engine into the turbo's air intake pipe.
This is the opposite flow as in the diagram above and is the time when the crankcase ventilation is catching the most oil.
